Choose a fulfillment partner for the operation you have
The best fulfillment center for a small business is one whose services, commercial terms and operating process fit that business. Order volume matters, but so do product size, inventory complexity, packing instructions and customer destinations. Start with your own data rather than a provider's headline price or a promise of universal savings.
A third-party logistics provider, or 3PL, can handle storage, picking, packing and shipping under an agreed scope. Outsourcing also introduces receiving requirements, system setup and ongoing coordination. Compare the complete operating model with the work you currently perform in-house.
Document your current needs and expected growth
- Orders: gather monthly volume, items per order, daily peaks and seasonal changes.
- Inventory: list SKUs, dimensions, weights, stock levels and replenishment frequency.
- Products: explain fragility, shelf-life concerns or other handling requirements that need review.
- Channels: identify your storefronts, marketplaces and any wholesale or subscription orders.
- Customers: summarize destinations, delivery expectations and returns activity.
Use a realistic range for growth rather than presenting a sales goal as committed volume. Share upcoming launches and promotions, but distinguish confirmed orders from forecasts. This helps a provider evaluate the work and explain what would change as your business grows.
Compare the full cost, not only the pick fee
Request quotes based on the same order and inventory profile. Ask providers to separate receiving, storage, picking, packing materials, shipping, returns and any special work. Confirm whether setup fees, minimum charges, peak-period charges or other commercial terms apply.
Compare a normal month with a slower month and a busy period. A low per-order rate may not represent the total cost for a business with slow-moving inventory or complex bundles. Include the time your team will still spend on purchasing, forecasting, customer support and exceptions when evaluating outsourcing.
Review systems and everyday communication
Confirm compatibility with your actual store configuration, not just the platform name. Discuss SKU matching, bundles, order changes, cancellations and how shipment information returns to your store. Ask to walk through an example order and a realistic exception before launch.
Establish who contacts whom when stock is missing, an inbound shipment is late or a customer return needs a decision. Agree on reporting, support channels and the process for resolving discrepancies. Service expectations should be documented rather than inferred from a marketing description.
Assess Lincoln Fulfillment's fit
Lincoln Fulfillment's primary positioning is ecommerce brands shipping 5,000+ orders per month. Growing businesses are welcome to discuss their needs, current volume and plans. Fit, minimums, availability and commercial terms must be confirmed with the team; this guide does not promise acceptance of every order profile.
Services include ecommerce pick, pack and ship, warehousing, B2B fulfillment, returns, subscriptions, kitting, labeling and FBA prep. The Lincoln Fulfillment customer portal supports inventory and order visibility, with compatibility and account-specific setup reviewed during onboarding.
Facilities are at 6507 Harney Rd. in Tampa, 155 Great Arrow Ave. in Buffalo and 10 N. Gates Ave. in Lackawanna. Compare those locations with supplier origins and customer destinations, and confirm product suitability and the proposed receiving location.
Make the decision with a workable transition plan
Before committing, review the agreement, inventory transfer, receiving schedule, system setup, packing instructions and responsibilities at launch. Confirm how remaining inventory and records would be handled if the relationship ends. A clear transition plan is as important as the initial quote.
Discuss your fulfillment requirements with Lincoln Fulfillment. Include your current order volume, SKU count, sales channels, storage needs and growth plans so the team can evaluate fit and prepare an appropriate scope.
Lincoln Fulfillment maintains 99.8% order accuracy. Lincoln Fulfillment offers same-day order processing. Confirm the processing arrangements for your account; order processing is not a promise of same-day delivery.
